The artistic intention of this piece is to explore the range of the different parts of the string quartet both in timbre, rhythm and harmony. This was done through use of extended techniques as well as interesting motif building. The piece started with the melodic motif in the violins with the viola and cello providing some harmonic backup, a multitude of extended techniques were also used, including col legno, pizz, harmonics and tremolo. After this i took the melodic idea and made in arco i took this and then flipped it so the melodic idea went into the cello and viola parts and the violin was holding the harmony together. After this i took the melodic ideas and combined different parts together such as violin 1 and cello, violin 2 and viola and other combos, then i played all 4 at the same time and randomly moved round notes in semitones. The formal structure of this piece is ABC.
